About me

Hello, I'm Liesl, the creator and proprietor of Carlson Creates.
I maintain a studio practice in Berkshire County in western Massachusetts, by a river, where I reside with my husband, our son, Cash our black lab, and Mittens our cat.
I am a dedicated craftsperson with a primary focus on jewelry design, a field that has captivated me since childhood. My journey into the world of handcrafted adornments began when I was quite young and explored various artistic mediums. However, it wasn’t until my grandfather sent me a catalog with a beginner jewelry class circled, no note, just a simple circle. To me, this felt like a sign prompting me to enroll in the class. From that moment on, I haven’t stopped creating jewelry.
A key aspect of my philosophy is to make my work accessible and affordable for the average person. I believe that everyone deserves to wear beautiful, handcrafted pieces. However, I’ve found this increasingly challenging due to rising costs of materials and production.
One of my favorite techniques in jewelry making is adding layers and textures, as they represent the complexity of individual identities. Each person has their own stories and experiences, much like the varied layers in my creations.
In addition to my artistic pursuits, I also work a traditional 9-to-5 job, which adds another layer of complexity to my life. Balancing my career, family responsibilities, and creative endeavors can be quite challenging, often leaving me searching for pockets of time where I can immerse myself in my work.
To stay productive, I often juggle multiple projects simultaneously. This approach allows me to make the most of my limited time. Despite the demands of daily life, my passion for creating and making jewelry fuels me, it’s an essential part of who I am, and it continually inspires me to keep pushing creative boundaries.
